With end-of-year celebrations fast approaching, the Australian Government is helping school leavers celebrate overseas safely, make informed choices and return home with positive memories.
Through our Schoolies partnerships and our new TravelSmarts learning tool , young Australians and their parents will get practical advice designed to reduce alcohol-related harm and promote safer travel behaviours.
These resources and activities will help young Australians better understand risks they may encounter overseas, including:
- the risks of alcohol consumption such as methanol poisoning and drink spiking
- unfamiliar local laws
- how to seek help if something goes wrong.
Teaching young Australians how to TravelSmart
To help young Australians better prepare for their first independent trip overseas, Smartraveller has launched TravelSmarts.
TravelSmarts is a free and fun interactive learning tool that uses real world scenarios to teach young people about how to make informed travel decisions. It covers common moments where important decisions around safety and travel are made, from choosing a safe destination and looking after their belongings, to knowing what to do if things go wrong during the trip.
Before your child heads overseas, encourage them to visit Smartraveller.gov.au to test their TravelSmarts, explore the advice on Partying Safely Hub and sign up for travel advice updates delivered straight to their inbox.
