Returning to Australia before the Olympics
No overseas spectators can travel to attend the Games. However, there'll be a significant increase in travellers to and from Japan over this period as athletes and officials travel there to participate. It’s likely that many flights will be fully booked in the lead up to the Games until late September.
If you’re in Japan and are planning to return to Australia, we encourage you to consider bringing your plans forward and departing ahead of the Games.
There are currently seats available on flights from Japan to Australia under the international arrival caps. Contact your airline or travel provider directly to make flight bookings.
Financial assistance may be available through the overseas financial assistance program if you need a loan to secure a seat or to cover living expenses while you wait for a flight.
If you need consular assistance contact us at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo on (+81) 352324111 or call the Consular Emergency Centre on (+61) 2 6261 3305.
