There is an extreme risk of terrorism in Cabo Delgado province and in Erati and Memba districts of Nampula province. We continue to advise do not travel to Cabo Delgado province, Erati and Memba districts of Nampula province. Terrorists are likely to target areas frequented by foreigners or where foreign companies operate and where expatriate staff reside. Australians in Cabo Delgado and in Erati and Memba districts of Nampula province should leave the area if it's safe to do so. If you decide to remain in the area, maintain heightened security awareness, monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities.

The Tanzanian Government has confirmed an outbreak of Marburg virus in the Bukoba District in Kagera Region. You should take steps to reduce potential exposure to the virus, including practising good hygiene and avoiding high-risk activities.

Terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks anywhere in Tanzania. Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by Westerners. Be alert to your surroundings and pay close attention to your personal security. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative RT-PCR tests results are no longer needed to enter Tanzania.

Ongoing protests and strikes are occurring across France, including Paris. Recent protests and strikes have led to widespread disruptions to travel services (including road, train and air travel). Some recent demonstrations have led to destruction of private property, burning of garbage in the streets and unsafe use of fireworks. In some of these incidents, clashes with police occurred resulting in the use of tear gas and water cannon. Avoid all demonstrations and areas with significant police activity. Monitor the media and follow the advice of local authorities.

Solomon Islands

If you're fully vaccinated, most COVID-19 travel restrictions have been removed. You must show your vaccination status at check-in prior to departure, and unvaccinated travellers under 12 years of age are required to show a negative PCR test result obtained 72 hours before departure. If you're unvaccinated and over 12 years of age, you should contact a Solomon Islands High Commission or Consulate before you travel (see 'Travel'). An online Travel Authorization process for foreigners was being trialled. The Solomon Islands Government has suspended this process until 31 March, with further updates on the implementation of the trial to be provided. The hyperbaric chamber in Honiara is currently out of operation. If you experience decompression sickness (DCS) as a result of scuba diving, specialised transport will be required to transfer you to another country for treatment.

Iraq has banned the import, manufacture, and selling of alcoholic beverages of all types, punishable by fines of up to IQD 25 million. Customs officers may also confiscate prohibited goods or items deemed a threat to the peace, security, health, environment, or social order of Iraq.

The security situation throughout Iraq remains volatile. Due to the security environment and the ongoing threat of kidnappings, you should leave Iraq immediately by commercial means if it's safe to do so. If you're staying in Iraq, be alert and check media for updates on new threats.

Due to the weather conditions, a State of Emergency has been imposed in parts of Peru. This may disrupt travel services, including inter-provincial road travel. Some tourist attractions may be temporarily closed.

Civil unrest is still occurring in some regions. Due to civil unrest and protests, a State of Emergency and local curfews remain in place in parts of Peru. We advise you reconsider your need to travel to Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Apurimac and the city of Puerto Maldonado. Other levels apply. There are widespread roadblocks and disruptions to land transport. If you plan to travel by road, research your route carefully, including regularly checking the official list of road closures. You're no longer required to undertake a pre-departure COVID-19 test if you arrive in Australia from Hong Kong. Cannabidiol (CBD) is listed as a dangerous drug in Hong Kong (see 'Local laws'). The maximum penalty is life imprisonment. You'll need proof of a negative COVID-19 test to board your flight to Hong Kong. Dual citizenship is no longer recognised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region following the application of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China (see 'Local laws'). As previously advised, Hong Kong's National Security Law could be interpreted broadly, and you could break the law without intending to. If you're concerned about the new law, reconsider your need to remain in Hong Kong (see 'Local laws').

There have been cash and petrol shortages across Nigeria in recent weeks. Trading, business and travel have been disrupted as a result. There have been hour-long queues at ATMs, banks and petrol stations. Several instances of heightened tensions have been reported. Attacks are unpredictable in their location and intensity. The main targets have been infrastructure, police and military vehicles, and security and administrative personnel. Targets may also include other civilian infrastructure, including hotels, serviced apartments, restaurants, bars, shopping malls, schools, petrol stations and supermarkets. Heightened security arrangements are in place for Australian officials. Remain aware of the security environment at all times. Exercise caution including in townships under martial law. Minimise movement, especially on anniversaries and days of national significance and monitor media closely. Avoid all public gatherings, protests and areas of known and possible unrest. A curfew remains in place. There have been widespread detentions, including of foreigners. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention.

Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Russia. Terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda and Daesh-aligned groups, continue to call for attacks in Russia. Attacks can be indiscriminate and may occur on or around seasonal, festive, or religious events in public places and could include popular tourist sites. Russia has seen a number of terrorist attacks which have caused large casualty numbers, including in Moscow and St Petersburg, and Russia's aviation has also been targeted. Attacks may occur with little or no warning.

The security situation could deteriorate further with little warning. Security incidents often occur in the regions of Russia bordering Ukraine, including explosions and large fires. Do not attempt to travel to the Russia-Ukraine border or cross into Ukraine from Russia.

Russian authorities may adopt a more negative attitude towards foreigners in Russia and enforce local laws in an arbitrary manner. Avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid commenting publicly on political developments.

Russia has introduced a 'medium response level' and a 'heightened preparedness' level in several regions. A basic readiness level is in place in the rest of Russia. There may be an increase in security personnel and installations. A range of security measures or restrictions may be introduced with little to no notice.

If you're in Russia, leave immediately using the limited commercial options available or private means if it's safe to do so. Review your personal security plans and carefully consider the safest means and route to depart. You're responsible for your own safety and that of your family. Make sure your travel documents are up to date. If, despite our advice, you decide to enter Russia, expect thorough security checks at the border, including questioning and inspections of electronic devices.

Our ability to provide consular assistance in Russia is limited. The Australian Government will not be able to evacuate you from Russia.
