Travel Advice

Paraguay

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade does not issue a travel advice for Paraguay at this time.

Australians are advised to read the General Advice to Australian Travellers which provides general information about safety and security, local laws and customs, entry and exit requirements, health issues, travel and health insurance and consular assistance and registration.

Outbreaks of dengue fever occur in Paraguay from time to time. For further information on dengue fever, see the Department of Health and Ageing's factsheet.

A number of cases of yellow fever have recently been reported from rural areas of central east Paraguay, in particular San Estanislao in the department of San Pedro. Suspected cases have also been reported on the outskirts of the capital Asuncion. Argentina has reported an outbreak of yellow fever in monkeys in an area of Misiones Province bordering Paraguay. We recommend travellers to the affected areas consult their doctor about the need for a vaccination for yellow fever. More information about yellow fever is available from the Department of Health and Ageing website.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has confirmed cases of avian influenza in birds in a number of countries throughout the world. For a list of these countries, visit the OIE website. For information on our advice to Australians on how to reduce the risk of infection and on Australian Government precautions see our travel bulletin on avian influenza.
